Old Crow Womin

Old Crow Womin went outside yesterday and said goodbye to the murder of crows that kept her company while she was coming into being in the studio.

Each day they greeted her with calls bright and crisp.
They told her of their flights and their adventures.

She whispered back to them her wisdom and her secrets.

She told them of a womin that she must go to.

A womin of great love and clarity who was in need of her support and her knowing ways.

She told the crows that this woman was a crow at heart and would welcome them all into her world.

There they would bring crow magic to the woman in her time of need.

The plans were set.

So now they travel.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Old Crow Womin is a commissioned piece that will be residing in Pennsylvania, USA with a lovely woman of wisdom and magic.  I am sure the two of them will whisper crow magic and spread love and light to all who meet them.
Much love my Crow Sister
I am blessed to call you friend.
New Look For An Old Friend
Back when I first joined ArtDollsOnly I was privileged to be a part of the Traveling Art Doll Project.
That is where one person starts a doll out and others in the group each add their own touch to the doll and journal the process. Then the doll comes back to the owner.
My doll's name was Bent Willow Woman. I started her off as just a head
and the other ladies added their magic and she took on a very 60's "old hippy" vibe. I have a lovely journal/scrapbook of Bent Willow Woman's life and journey complete with photos and comments from the lovely ladies that helped her along her way and it means the world to me.
But after sitting around in my studio for a few years, Bent Willow Woman decided she needed a new look. One that projected who she was today.
So we wandered off to the second hand store and looked something to re-purpose for her new outfit.
It took some searching, but she Bent Willow Woman saw the red scarf in a basket in the corner, she just knew that was for her.
We took it home and she was right! The scarf transformed into a lovely dress that fit Bent Willow Woman perfectly. We added a lovely necklace and some feathers for her hair and the look was complete.
There was just one thing left to do.
I wrapped Bent Willow Woman up in a box and sent her to live in the beautiful mountains of Appalachia with my mommy.  :)
She arrived yesterday and has been given a special place in the living room where she can look out the window and watch the deer grazing in the yard.
She gets to see the sun set and the moon rise over the mountains.
She is home.
I'm Doing Some House Cleaning
I'm cleaning and re-decorating the blog / website and etsy store.
Things are getting a bit stale and I want to shake it up a bit.
So if you stop by the site and it's a bit wonky
please bear with me.
Medicine Dolls, Fairy Godmothers and Hats!
Weeehooooo!!!!  Chemo is over and the prognosis is awesome!
I want to thank you all for hanging with me and sending all the prayers love and light! You are AWESOME!
All the notes and cards helped keep my spirits up during the chemo. :)  And the hats too! OH THE HATS!!
 I've had SO much fun with them! See....
My lovely daughter made this for me!
You can find more of her creations at
The Soul Shine Shack
But any way.. lol .. I'm back among the living! I'm up and around a ready to be busy creating again. In fact, I am enrolled in two awesome classes at the moment.
One is taught by the talented Deb Wood. It's at A for Artistic and it's a Fairy Godmother full body sculpting class.  I'm not so sure I'm cut out for full body sculpting, but giving it a try is one of the thongs on my bucket list, so I'm going for it. I'll be updating you on my progress here, no matter how questionable it is. LOL ( and that should be no reflection on Deb's teaching! She is great! I just don't know that I have the patience or the light hands to do that kind of work.)
 Here is what Deb's Fairy Godmother looks like:
I'll be adding photos of MY version later... It could be quite the frightening adventure!
My second class, Medicine Dolls, is with the amazing Barb Kobe.
It's a class on making healing dolls, which Barb assures me that I already do. LOL  Who knew!
I'm learning so much about intention, symbolism and what healing truly is.
If you are interested in Healing Dolls, Barb has a wonderful blog called The Art of Healing Dolls or hop on over to her page and take the Medicine Doll Workshop. It's a very deep learning experience.
I'll be posting the first of my Medicine Dolls later. I think she definitely deserves a post all her own.
So that is what I'm up to at the moment; just getting back into the swing of things. Oh and I'm on a mission to update my web site / blog / Etsy store and integrate it with Wild Wimmin.  I'm entirely too spread out. Time to start the new year with SIMPLICITY and PEACE. Plus that makes it easier for you to come hang out with me.
So check back again soon and see what's happening in my world.
Moonbeams & Blessings!
August 26, 2013
I just wanted to say thanks for hanging with me, even though the posts have been few and far between lately.
I'm dealing with breast cancer and things have been a bit hectic here to say the least.
Everything is turning out well and I hope to be back in full swing by the first of the year.
The double mastectomy is over and  now I'm gearing up for chemo. BLECH!  But it won't last forever, right? :)
So keep checking back in and I'll do my best to post some of the little things I'm playing with in the studio.
If you are interested in what's going on with me health wise, here is where I'm blogging about it.
Again, thanks for stopping by. I really appreciate your support!
Reflections, Balance & Action
Over the past year I have been searching for something. I didn't know what it was, but I knew I needed to find it. Something was missing.
I hit the library and plunged through the self -help books. I ravaged them searching for an answer to what was missing in my life. What was it that I was needing so desperately?
Well, with much quiet meditation and soul searching I finally realized what was missing...
It was me.
I had become so bogged down in trying to create "acceptable art" that I forgot the reason I make art. I make art to let my soul shine. I make art to touch the people that it calls to. I make art for joy,balance and connection. I make art because it is the way I connect with spirit.
I wanted to share this with you, because I would love to have you with my on my creative  journey. I would love to share my art and thoughts and creativity with you and have you share back with me what it means to you. Does it touch you in any way?
Here's a peek at one of the new creations and where my soul is leading me.
I hope you will join me on my journey.
I'll keep you posted.
Jess
Buffalo Women's Gifts 2012
Photobucket
Sorry I've been quiet for so long. I've been so busy getting ready for this show ( my very first) that I couldn't think of anything else.
So here's a look at the set up. I had several new pieces and a few old friends there on display.
Photobucket
"Forever My Love" Made her debut at the show, and found a new home the very same day!
Photobucket
Thanks so much for giving her an amazing new home, Gino and for making me smile!
Photobucket
Goddess Rising also made her debut and found a new home. :)  She's not like my usual pieces, so I was thrilled she got such a great reception.
Photobucket
The show was in Ashbury Hall at  Babeville, a most amazing place restored by the amazing musician, Ani DiFranco.
The day was awesome, with great food from the Whole Hog Truck.  YUMMY BBQ!!!  And awesome music all day long.
I brought home some exquisite tea from Design a Tea.  I'm spending my morning till night sipping liquid delight!  I'm a forever fan!! :)
It's definitely a show to put on your calendar for next year.
But that's enough for the moment... Time to go do something artsy!!!
Now There Be Dragons!!!!
There is a new group of beings at Once-Upon-A-Moon.
They are called Crescent Creatures.
Each and every time a TRULY heartfelt wish is made while looking at the moon, a little magic slips down to earth on a moonbeam and a Crescent creature is brought to life.
Crescent Creatures are tiny beings that are born with the sole purpose of helping to make wishes come true. You can tell you have a real Crescent Creature by the crescent moon "tattooed" in moonlight on their tushie!
This is Sprig, the first Crescent Creature.
He is a mini dragon. (Thanks to the urging of Pam Gileda Small )
Don't forget, Mac and I love it when you "Pin" our photos, so feel free.
Faerie Garden Mother seeks New Garden To Love
Yesterday, while searching for the perfect place to plant some daisies, I was shocked to hear a rather melodious voice say, “They would look lovely just beyond that bush, Dear. And they would have plenty of sunlight.”
I looked around for the person giving advice, but it seemed I was quite alone. Then again the voice sang out, “I’m down hear, Dear, by the stump.”
I shifted my gaze towards the base of a fallen tree and there in the grass smiling up at me was a tiny lady. “Silvana Bindweed, Faerie Garden Mother, at your service,” she said with a wink.
I smiled and curtsied, for that is what you do when you meet a fairy. “Merry Meet, Silvana Bindweed. I am Jesi…”
“Merry Meet, child,” she said with a smile. I know you are. I was hoping to meet you.”
“I’m honored, but why would a Faerie Garden Mother be looking for me?” I asked. (Well a girl needs to know why faeries are looking for her. It’s an important thing, seeing as I am the faerie liaison for Once-Upon-A-Moon”
“I’m looking for a new garden and I thought you might be able to help. Would you post this on your computer and see if anyone is looking for a Faerie Garden Mother? People are so busy with computers these days they forget there’s magic just waiting for them to believe.”
“I’d be happy to, Lady Bindweed.” I said.
She thanked me and I hurried into take care of her request. (You can’t keep a Master Faerie Godmother waiting, you know)
So here is her resume and some photos. I have also included some extra information that I thought might be helpful in deciding if you would like to give this lovely lady a new home.
Sketchbook Saturday - Spore Lil' Guy
Ok, I know it's normally Sketchbook Sunday, but I've been MIA for a while and I just wanted to share this, my latest adventure with you.
Today when I'm was working in the studio...
(oh! Don't roll your eyes! I HAVE been working... I just haven't been sharing :P)
Anyway...
 when I' was in the studio, I had this strange feeling that I was being watched.
At first I thought it might be Mac staring at me from his hiding place under my photo table, but it wasn't, because Mac was sitting on the shelf above my head
playing with a things he shouldn't.  Imagine that. LOL
Then I considered that it might be Mac's arch nemesis. the squirrel, on the back deck.
Nope, not Mr. Squirrel.
I was beginning to get a bit creeped out, when I noticed a rustle in the corner where I keep my roots, twigs and branches.  Unfortunately so did Mac.
He bound down off the shelf and ran head first into the woodpile.
Branches and roots scattered everywhere!
I scooped him up and looked into the mess expecting to find a bug or spider who had hitched a ride into the house on a piece of wood, but instead
 I was met with a pair of dark eyes peering out of a hollow piece of wood.
Ah! A visitor! Wonderful!
I smiled and motioned to the tiny one that I would be right back,
and I took Mac to the kitchen and gave him a treat to keep him occupied.
(Can't have him nommin' on the guests!)
Then I rushed back to the studio to say hello.
The tiny visitor was still there, peeking from the hollow.
He looked at me with questioning eyes, then back to the hollow.
Well, I immediately knew what he wanted to know.
He wanted to borrow the hollow for a few days until the snow finished falling.
(There's about 5 inches outside at the moment)
Well of course I was delighted, but I asked if he would do me a kindness in return.
I asked if he would sit for a sketch.
He was a bit shy about it at first, but quickly warmed to the idea when I offered
some cookie crumbs and milk to nibble while I sketched.
I'm not great at sketching, but I do think it captures his likeness.
He didn't give his name, which is normal with the Fae.
Names hold great magick, you see.
So I am simply calling him,
Spore Lil' Guy
And you never know, he may become the subject of a doll in the near future,
but for now, he's sleeping away in the hollow snuggled down in a milkweed pod.
I'm hoping we can chat some tomorrow, but for now he needs his sleep.
So for the rest of the night, Mac and I are going to curl up on the couch,
much some popcorn and watch wonderfully inspiring movies
filled with fae, magic and happily ever after!
New witch in the works
This lil old lady is currently waiting for me in my studio. She is quite adamant that she needs to get her body and clothes before Thanksgiving. (I'm not sure she will get it all LOL but she can dram, right? )
She will have clay hands & feet/shoes and a soft body over a wire frame. When finished she will be around 18" tall and you will be able to gently pose her.
I'll keep the WIP photos coming as she comes to life.
And this Lil Lady will come with her own hand made book, that tells her personal story. It will be hand made and hand written by me. Cool idea, hmm?
Well, back to work!
Moonbeams & Blessings,
Jesi & McAnally - who is staying warm sleeping on the cable box.  LOL
Sketchbook Sunday - 11-13-2011
Well there are new things roaming around in my head these days.  Not sure what this says about me, lol  but things have been getting a bit darker in OnceUponAMoon land. The freaks are wandering out.
Here's my latest sketch. (please remember, I never said I was a 2d artist! lol)
I do think he might make an appearance in 3D sometime soon. What do ya think?
